Teele & Ryan: An Origin Story

It’s my favorite time of the year and it’s not because of fireworks, grilling and boating. It was this weekend back in 2013 that Ryan and I made it official and the rest was history! We always enjoy reminiscing this weekend eight (!) years ago and how fun that time was in our relationship. I wanted to share a few past, present and future stories about where we’ve come from and where we’re going.

How did you and Ryan meet?

We actually met on Twitter! And usually the follow-up question I get to this is, “HOW?!” Back in 2013, I was working my first full-time job and going to graduate school and I was living in Madison, Wisconsin. I had been contemplating moving to the Twin Cities area and began following people on Twitter that worked in marketing to start networking. Ryan lived in St. Paul and works in the communications field and I decided to follow him. We eventually got to talking a little and when I was making a trip up to the Cities a few weeks later he asked me to get a drink and the rest is history.

What was doing long distance like?

I always have mixed feelings about the time that Ryan and I were long distance. We were lucky because we met in April and I moved to the Twin Cities in August, so in the grand scheme of things it wasn’t all that long. I was able to come up to visit him on weekends and we made it work until I was able to finally make the move. I definitely won’t lie though, long distance is tough and sometimes agonizing, but as long as there is light at the end of the tunnel it’s worth it.

How long did you wait until you got married?

We were together nearly seven years before we got engaged and almost eight years when we got married. I could not recommend this more. We had so much time to really get to know each other, live together and become a better couple because of it. Of course, everyone works on their own timeline, but this really was what was best for us.

Why’d you decide to have a destination wedding?

I actually covered this topic in a specific blog post! A lot of people ask why we wanted to do a destination wedding and I covered that and all destination wedding questions in that post.

Are you going to have kids?

It was about 5 seconds after we got married that we were asked this question. The short answer is no. Ryan and I have a pretty great life and we just don’t see children fitting into that. Ryan and I really enjoy traveling, going to festivals, concerts, sporting events and just general spontaneity that wouldn’t be conducive to having children. We also have two nephews and a niece and most of our friends have children so we have plenty of kids in our life!

I want to hear your origin story! Tell me how you met your boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse or partner.
