We Spent a Weekend in Duluth, Minnesota: Here’s What We Did

If you live in the Twin Cities, a yearly (or multi-yearly) pilgrimage to Duluth is likely on your list of things to do. We try to go up there at least once per year for an annual beer festival that we love. I previously rounded up some of our favorite spots in Duluth, but after this year’s trip it deserved a few additions.

Friday

We drove up to Duluth Friday afternoon. FYI – if you are coming from the Twin Cities, in the summer, on a Friday, just expect traffic to be awful. Lots of cabin traffic will make this route quite slow. We checked into our hotel; we stayed at the Radisson Hotel – Harborview this year. We almost always stay at the Holiday Inn – Downtown, but for some reason the Radisson was significantly cheaper and in nearly the same location. We like these two hotels because it’s walkable to bars, restaurants and Canal Park without paying Canal Park prices. We had happy hour at Earth Rider Brewery in Superior. A neat brewery housed in an old bar just over the bridge from Duluth. From there, we had dinner at Dreamland Supper Club just outside Superior. This was our second trip to this supper club. If you’re looking for an authentic, Wisconsin supper club experience I highly recommend driving out here. Reservations are suggested. After dinner, we drove back to Duluth for a quick stop at The Rathskeller, a very cool, vibe-y speakeasy in downtown Duluth.

Saturday

Saturday was All Pints North, the beer festival we drive up for every year. The festival is held in Bayfront Park the last weekend of July and there’s always tons of yummy beer, live music and food trucks. It’s a festival we look forward to each summer. We wanted to make sure we had a full stomach before partaking in gallons of beer drinking, so we tried Burger Paradox. Think: tons of fun smash burger options. If you aren’t in the mood for burgers? They’ve got wings, fun apps and more. Also, super yummy cocktails and hard malts and floats. This might be a yearly stop for us. After the beer festival, we spent the evening with friends at Roscoe’s Pioneer Bar.

Sunday

We had pre-scheduled Sunday brunch at Boat Club, one of the restaurants inside the Fitger’s Complex. If you’re looking for a decent brunch with absolutely stunning views, make a reservation for Boat Club’s patio. We sat right over Lake Superior, sipping cocktails and relaxing. We spent the rest of Sunday brewery hopping, hitting up Ursa Minor Brewing, Bent Paddle Brewing, Blacklist Brewing, Duluth Cider and Wild State Cider. We always finish Sunday evening with Sammy’s Pizza and relaxing in the hotel hot tub.
